George P. Pelecanos
George P. Pelecanos (born February 18, 1957 in Washington, DC ) is an American journalist , detective writer , screenwriter and producer .
Life
George Pelecanos has Greek ancestry and was raised in Washington DC, where his father as a child emigrated . As the child of a working-class family, Pelecanos helped the family who earned their living in the Greek immigrant scene by working in cheap restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc. Up to the age of 32 he worked in various jobs, including electronics salesman, shoe salesman, construction worker and bartender, while at the same time completing an art degree at Maryland University .
Then Pelecanos began to write and in 1992 published A Firing Offense, the first part of the Nick Stefanos trilogy . From the point of view of the common people, Pelecanos describes - also socially critical - in this and seven other novels the history of Washington from several decades. His novels are all set in and around Washington DC.
Pelecanos' literary talent secured him journalistic publications in The New York Times , The Washington Post , the American edition of Gentlemen's Quarterly (GQ), the cultural magazine Washingtonian and many other publications.
Pelecanos has also been very successful as a producer, screenwriter, and writer for film and television. He wrote seven scripts for the famous US television series The Wire , most of them for season 4, which earned him an Emmy nomination . 2017 is involved in the series The Deuce .
George P. Pelecanos lives in Silver Spring , Maryland with his wife and three children .
