David Simon (2004)

David Simon (born February 9, 1960 in Washington, DC ) is an American author, journalist and screenwriter / producer of American television series.

Life

Simon comes from a Jewish family. After attending the University of Maryland, College Park , he wrote for the Baltimore Sun newspaper for 12 years .

Simon is the author of Homicide: A Year on Murderous Streets and The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood . The first book was the template for the NBC series Homicide : Life on the Street , which he accompanied as a writer and producer. From the second book, Simon worked with Ed Burns to create the HBO miniseries The Corner , which won an Emmy in 2000 .

He also invented and produced, again in collaboration with Ed Burns, the award-winning HBO series The Wire (2002-2008). In 2008, Simons and Burns worked together again and wrote the screenplay for the seven-part miniseries Generation Kill . This was followed by the drama series Treme (2009-2013) , which was set in New Orleans . In 2015 the miniseries Show Me a Hero was created . The series The Deuce followed from 2017 to 2019 .

David Simon is married to Laura Lippman and has two children.

Awards

In September 2010, Simon received the Genius Award from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation .
