Kurt Steinmann

Kurt Steinmann (born June 8, 1945 in Willisau ) is a Swiss classical philologist . He is known as the author of numerous translations of ancient authors.

Life

Kurt Steinmann worked as a secondary school teacher in Willisau and Reussbühl . He is a member of PEN and Authors in Switzerland (AdS). He mainly translates from ancient Greek, e.g. B. Tragedies by Aeschylus , Euripides and Sophocles , poems by Archilochus and Sappho as well as the handbook of morality by Epictetus . From the Latin he translated a. A. Petrons Satyricon , Petrarch's ascent of Mont Ventoux and Erasmus of Rotterdam's praise of folly

In 2008 he drew attention to himself with a new metric translation of the Odyssey . In 2016 his translation of the Revelation of John appeared , in 2017 his translation of the Iliad .
