from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kiyama Shōhei Literature Prize ( Japanese 木 山 捷 平 文学 賞 , Kiyama Shōhei Bungakushō , also for short: Kiyama Prize ) was awarded annually from 1997 to 2005 by the city of Kasaoka in memory of the writer Kiyama Shōhei who was born there and to promote literature forgive. The award was given to poets and writers of so-called pure literature ( 純 文学 ), whose work is characterized by originality and humor. Since 2006, instead of the Kiyama Shōhei Literature Prize, the annual one million yen Kiyama Shōhei Prize for debutants in narrative literature ( 木 山 捷 平 短 編 小説 賞 , Kiyama Shōhei tanpenshōsetsushō ) has been awarded.

The formal separation of this short novel form from related forms such as narration, short story, etc. is usually difficult. The tender conditions stipulate that the submitted work may contain a maximum of 50 pages of a standard Genkō yōshi (each with 400 characters).
