Shinran Prize

The Shinran Prize ( Jap. 親鸞賞 , Shinran-shō ) is a biennial award literary prize in memory of Shinran , the founder of the Pure Land Buddhism belonging Jōdo Shinshū . It is awarded by a Hongan-ji Foundation for the Promotion of Culture and is worth two million yen. The announcement of the laureate always takes place in October of a year with an even number, the award of the prize in December.

  • 2016 Sawada Tōko for the novel Jakuchū ( 若 冲 )
  • 2018 Morota Reiko for the novel Ima hitotabi no, Izumi Shikibu ( 今 ひ と た び の 、 和 泉 式 部 )
