Itō-Sei Literature Prize

The Itō-Sei Literature Prize ( Japanese 伊藤 整 文学 賞 , "Itō Sei Bungaku Shō") has been awarded since 1990 by the city of Otaru to commemorate the poet, writer and critic Itō Sei who was born there. The prize is awarded in 2 categories: literature and review / criticism. The winners will receive a bronze statuette of a woman (called a "seagull") and prize money of 1 million yen. The prize is organized and awarded by a selection committee, the city of Otaru and the newspaper Hokkaidō Shimbun . The Itō-Sei Literature Prize is expected to be awarded for the 25th and last time in 2014 due to lack of funds.
