Hiromi Kawakami

Hiromi Kawakami ( Japanese 川 上 弘 美 , Kawakami Hiromi ); (* April 1, 1958 in Tokyo Prefecture as Hiromi Yamada ( 山田 弘 美 ), Yamada Hiromi ), is one of the most famous contemporary Japanese writers . In the beginning she wrote science fiction .

After studying science, she first taught biology before a collection of short stories from her under the title Kamisama (God) appeared in 1994 .

For Hebi o fumu she received the Akutagawa Prize in 1996 , the Itō-Sei Literature Prize and the Women's Literature Prize for Oboreru in 2000 and the Tanizaki Jun'ichirō Prize for Sensei no kaban in 2001 .
