Jang "MC" Min-chul (born June 17, 1991 in Cheonan ) is a former professional South Korean e-athlete in the computer game StarCraft 2 . He played the Protoss breed. In total, MC earned over $ 500,000 in cumulative tournament prize money. This makes him one of the top earners in this industry.
Career
Jang Min-chul started his e-sports career very unspectacularly in Starcraft Broodwar . In Starcraft 2 he was initially a member of the Old Generations team (abbr .: oGs), which disbanded in 2012. MC retired relatively early in the first two seasons of the GSL 2010 Open Seasons , but won the third and final GSL season of 2010. This made him the first Protoss player to win this highly regarded tournament (prize money: approx. 89,000 US dollars).
Two GSL tournaments later (in Season 2 of the 2011 Sponsorship League) MC was able to claim the Code-S title again and win prize money of 44,480 US dollars. So he was the first player to win the GSL Code-S tournament twice.
In the GSL Code-S, MC reached another final after these successes (Season 3 2012), but was able to record a number of successes outside of Korea. He won the 2011 DreamHack Stockholm Invitational. He also won the HomeStory Cup IV (prize money: US $ 7,500).
In China , MC won the StarsWar 6 tournament, which was endowed with 6,000 US dollars in prize money. In North America , MC finished second in NASL Season One (prize money: $ 25,000). He was also able to achieve 6th place at the MLG Providence 2011 and thus also credit his account with prize money of 5,250 US dollars. At the first "Red Bull Battlegrounds", which also took place in the USA, MC won the tournament in 2012 and thus won 15,000 US dollars.
In spring 2013 MC announced that they would be spending some time in Europe and participating in the European eliminations for the StarCraft II World Championship Series instead of qualifying via Korea. In the second and third seasons of the EU Finals, he was able to reach 2nd place. In 2014 he won the first season of the EU WCS in a re-edition of the 2013 final against MMA.
At the beginning of 2012 after the dissolution of his previous team Old Generations, he switched to Team SK Gaming . In 2013 MC also took part in several team leagues in the Incredible Miracle (IM) team. At the end of 2013, MC separated from SK Gaming. In 2014 he was without a team or represented the agency Global eSports Management.
Since February 2015 he played for the Trig Esports team. In June 2015, he announced his retirement as a professional e-athlete via Twitter .
With Chris "Huk" Loranger he won the Red Bull Battle Grounds in Washington with $ 15,000 in prize money. He also took part in the Homestory Cup XII , similar to the long-retired Stephano . That fueled rumors of MC's return to professional esports.
On May 10, 2016, MC announced that the GSL Qualifier would be his last tournament and that he would retire from the StarCraft II scene afterwards due to money and shoulder problems. He will also no longer stream on Twitch .tv. However, on May 21, eleven days later, he announced that he would play StarCraft II professionally again. Two days later, Jang announced that from now on he would play for Team CJ Entus in the StarCraft II Proleague and in the GSL .
At the end of 2016, he ended his career as a player. He then became the coach of the Kongdoo Monster team in the League of Legends game .
Play style
Jang Min-chul was best known for his control of the "Stalker" (German: Hetzer) game unit. In addition, he is of prominent e-sports highlighted commentators for the fact of having a variety of strategies in his repertoire.
