DreamHack is a digital event organizer. The venues were and are Leipzig , Cluj-Napoca , Bucharest , London , Valencia , Tours , Moscow , Malmö , Austin , Jönköping & Stockholm .

The DreamHack in the winter of 2004, which was held on November 25th to 28th, 2004 in the Elmia exhibition center, was the largest LAN party in the world with 5,272 participants and 5,852 computers, connected by a single local area network , and was included in the Guinness - Book of Records added. This record was further expanded in the following years; in winter 2006 there were over 10,000 participants for the first time and in winter 2012 over 20,000 participants for the first time.

Almost every year, participants are invited to exclusive beta tests of the latest generation of games. In addition, e-sports competitions with total prize money of several million kroner (several hundred thousand euros) take place. Since 2012 DreamHack also has branches in other European countries. The Modern Times Group has held 100% of the shares in DreamHack since the end of 2015 .

Since 2016 DreamHack has also organized an event in Leipzig.

Venues

Jonkoping

The DreamHack takes place in the Elmia exhibition center in Jönköping , Sweden . There she occupied halls C and D in 2006; Hall D is specified with an area of ​​10,000 m² and a height of 20.5 meters. At previous events there were problems in the halls to dissipate around 1 megawatt of waste heat, which was produced by the thousands of computers, and so temperatures of around 30 ° C prevailed at times. The air conditioning installed in the summer of 2004, which draws cooling water from a nearby lake, was able to reduce the temperature to a moderate 20-25 ° C. The halls rented in 2006 are no longer sufficient, so the other halls of the Elmia exhibition halls are also used for a wide variety of areas. Since the summer of Dreamhack 2007, the DreamExpo has been taking place at the same time, where a wide variety of manufacturers can present themselves. There is always a separate hall for sleeping and plenty of shower and toilet rooms. Especially for the Dreamhack, the toilets are cleaned around the clock and regularly replenished with the most important things.

London

The DreamHack has come to London once so far . As part of the DreamHack Open 2015, it was held in the Copper Box Arena from September 19th to 20th.

Tours

In 2015, DreamHack came to Tours for the first time . Also in 2016, a DreamHack event will take place in the French city as part of the DreamHack Zowie Open 2016 from May 14th to 16th. The venue is the Vinci Congress Center , which can seat over 3,000 spectators.

Moscow

So far there have been two DreamHack events in the Russian capital Moscow . The first event was held from September 13-14, 2014 in the Stadium Live , a building with over 9,000 m², which is normally used as a bar . From December 5th to 6th, 2015, the Swedish company returned to Moscow. This time the 69th pavilion of the Exhibition Center served as the venue. Nothing is known about further events in Moscow or other cities in Russia.

Leipzig

The Dreamhack Leipzig took place in Leipzig for the first time in 2016 . Part of the first event was the DreamHack Zowie Open 2016 in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and StarCraft II . The DreamHack Leipzig was held at the Leipzig exhibition center .

Austin

In May 2016 [obsolete] the Dreamhack Austin is the first DreamHack event to take place outside of Europe in the Texan capital. The venue will be the Austin Convention Center , which is designed for 3,200 spectators, in the middle of downtown Austin. The Dreamhack Zowie Open 2016 will also make a stop in the United States. The games Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , StarCraft II and Hearthstone were announced for the event.

  • Festival director David Garpenståhl described the festival in an interview as "Woodstock without mud and drugs".
  • In Sweden, even minors are allowed to play computer games for adults like "Counter-Strike" or "Manhunt".
