The DreamHack Leipzig 2016 was a LAN party , from 22 to 24 January 2016 in Leipzig took place.

The DreamHack was originally a LAN party in the Swedish Jönköping was that constantly grew and the largest event of its kind in Europe. Since 2012 there have also been offshoots in other parts of Europe. DreamHack Leipzig 2016 is the first of these on German soil and takes place on the exhibition grounds . Leipzig was already the location of the Games Convention until 2008 , which subsequently relocated to Cologne as Gamescom .

The main attractions are the tournaments in the e-sports disciplines Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and StarCraft 2 , which have prize money of 100,000 and 50,000 US dollars, respectively. There are also other smaller bring-your-own-computer (BYOC) tournaments, cosplay competitions and an expo from various manufacturers from the video game sector.

The StarCraft 2 tournament is the first event in the reformed StarCraft II World Championship Series . Participants must be able to show permanent residence outside of South Korea, so that significantly fewer South Koreans will start than in the previous Dreamhack tournaments.

Six of the eight participants in the tournament were invited, the other two were able to qualify through a tournament held in advance.
