Health risks

The supposedly sporty image of energy drinks is repeatedly criticized. The high sugar content, as it is also contained in the monster drink, often leads to obesity. Only the taurine content has been shown to have positive effects in sports activities. The high caffeine content can be dangerous for the body at higher doses. In Monster Energy the permitted maximum dose of 32 mg / 100 ml contain. Because of this high caffeine content, tolerance can develop with withdrawal symptoms ( caffeinism ), such as irritability or nervousness. A warning is printed on cans made for Germany:

"Increased caffeine content . Not recommended for children and pregnant or breastfeeding women (32mg / 100ml). Not recommended for people sensitive to caffeine. Consume responsibly as part of a balanced and varied diet and healthy lifestyle. Do not mix with alcohol. Can contains one serving. "

The WHO recommends banning the distribution of energy drinks to children and young people.

Association with deaths

After five deaths were linked to the drink in the United States, the Food and Drug Administration investigated the preparation in 2012 and looked into a possible ban. Several deaths have been tried in the United States.
