Franz Nietlispach (born April 2, 1958 in Muri ) is a Swiss athlete and politician .

biography

Nietlispach has been paraplegic since falling from a cherry tree at the age of 15. He drives a racing wheelchair and handbike and in 2001 set the record as the fastest wheelchair user in the world with 2 minutes 56.61 seconds over 1500 meters . His successes also include 23 Paralympic medals - including 14 gold medals - and 20 world championship titles. In 1988, 1990, 1991 and 1994 he was voted Swiss Disabled Sportsman of the Year . In 1995 and 1997 to 2000 he won the wheelchair classification of the Boston Marathon .

From 2001 to 2005 Nietlispach belonged to the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau as a member of the FDP . In 2003 he ran for the FDP in the National Council election and came in fourth place.

Nietlispach is married, has two children and lives in Zeiningen . He works as a sports advisor at Novartis .
