HomeStory Cup
The Homestory Cup (short: HSC ) is an e-sports tournament in the discipline StarCraft II . StarCraft II is a real-time strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment .
history
The tournament first took place in 2010 and has been held twice a year since then. The tournament organizer is the former WarCraft III player Dennis Gehlen or his company TaKeTV . The HSC will be held in Gehlen's apartment / broadcasting studio in Krefeld , which the tournament name Homestory Cup alludes to. The tournament will be reported in both regional and national media.
The tournament is broadcast live on the internet worldwide via video streaming providers such as Twitch.tv and most recently achieved almost two million unique views and tens of thousands of viewers at the same time. There is also a BarCraft in Krefeld not far from the venue. The tenth edition of the tournament took place in the Krefeld large discotheque in Königsburg .
The sponsors of the tournament include Razer , Mifcom, XMG and NeedForSeat , among others . At HSC VII there were also points to be won for the WCS ranking list for the first time.
At the 15th HSC the continuation of the event was at stake as no main sponsor could be found for the tournament. Therefore the prize pool was reduced to $ 10,000. The crowdfunding for a possible HSC XVI was also rather modest over four days. It was only when Dennis Gehlen addressed the community directly on the last day that more than $ 13,000 in donations could be generated in just 30 minutes. During this time, the donations rose beyond the target, so that a 16th edition of the tournament could be financially secured.
The 20th edition did not take place in the TakeTV studio as usual, but in Tropical Islands . At $ 53,000, the prize money was also significantly higher than usual. During the COVID-19 pandemic , the tournament took place exclusively online under the name StayAtHomeStory Cup .
