Eric Nam
Eric Nam ( Korean 에릭 남 ; real name Nam Yoon-do , Korean 남윤 도 ; born November 17, 1988 in Atlanta ) is a Korean-American singer with the record company B2M Entertainment . After being discovered through his song covers on YouTube , Nam made his first appearance on Birth of a Great Star 2 in 2012 . His debut album Cloud 9 was released in January 2013.
biography
Life
Eric Nam was born on November 17th, 1988 in Atlanta , where he grew up. He graduated from The Lovett School , where he played soccer and was active in an orchestra. For his final project, he recorded his own CD, which was very well received. Nam went to Boston to do his Bachelor of International Studies at Boston College . He also studied in Beijing for a year . As a child, he toured Italy with the Atlanta Boy Choir and sang in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome .
Pre-debut
Nam covered songs and uploaded them to his YouTube channel. These include Wedding Dress and I Need A Girl by Taeyang , End of the Road by Boys 2 Men, and Adeles Someone Like You . He applied to a casting for SM Entertainment , but did not get any further. A JYP representative advised him to go to a JYP casting in New York after hearing his cover songs. However, Nam did not accept the invitation because he wanted to concentrate on his studies. On January 13, 2011, he released his male cover version of the 2NE1 song Lonely . MBC became aware of this video . Nam then flew to Korea for an audition.
2011–2012
In December 2011, Nam took part in the Birth of a Great Star 2 talent show . He was part of the show for over eight months and made it into the top 5. After the show ended, he flew back to the US and performed there at the event collaboration Boston 2 , which is specially for Asian-American people. He released other cover songs, among others with Megan Lee , Mike Choi and Hong Mayer Part of Me by Katy Perry .
In June 2012, Nam went to Korea again to record the song The Blue Night of Jeju Island with his project Namaste . The song was released a month later. He was MC at the MBC Star Audition Season 3 , which took place in New York in August.
On September 25th, Eric Nam himself announced that he had signed a record deal with B2M Entertainment. The company announced that they wanted to fully support him as a musician.
The record company confirmed on December 14th that Eric Nam was scheduled to debut in January or February.
2013: debut, first album and moderation
B2M Entertainment confirmed Nams debut on January 14th via Twitter . They wrote: "We are now releasing the cover of Eric Nam's debut album 'Cloud 9', which will be released on January 23rd." (Original tweet in English.) Two days after confirmation, Nam published a teaser for the title song Heaven's Door . On January 23rd, the full music video for Heaven's Door was released.
On April 17th, the first episode of After School Club aired on Arirang TV . Eric Nam is the permanent presenter of the program, which is produced in English for the worldwide receivable broadcaster about Korea. In the first episode, Nam hosted alongside Hanbyul from Led Apple . Meanwhile, Nam is moderating alongside Kevin from U-KISS .
