The Gaon Chart shows the weekly best-selling songs and music albums in South Korea . The Korea Music Content Industry Association gets its data for the charts from online and offline sales at the largest web providers and stores in South Korea. It is the Korean equivalent of the US Billboard charts and aims to give an accurate overview of the actual popularity of albums and singles.

history

In February 2010, the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism together with the Korea Music Content Industry Association initiated the Gaon Chart. However, the monthly sales figures for 2009 were already collected beforehand.

methodology

The most important charts are the album and digital charts. The digital charts list the 200 best-selling digital songs. These are determined from the download, streaming and BGM charts. The album charts take into account sent units of physical sound carriers (tape, LP, CD, USB, etc.). The numbers are corrected in the event of returns. Three different ones are created from these charts: One that only takes South Korean music into account - one that only takes into account international music and one that combines both.
