The Boys is the fourth studio album by the South Korean girl group Girls' Generation and their third in Korean. It was released on October 19, 2011.

Publication and promotion

In mid-September 2011, SM Entertainment announced that the group would be back with a new Korean album in October. The exact date made the talent agency depends on how quickly Sooyoung from her sacrum fracture recovering. She suffered this on August 28 in a traffic accident.

On September 26, 2011, a promotional photo of Taeyeon was posted on the group's website . The photos of the other eight members were published on the following three days. After the album cover was published on September 30th, the teaser for the music video was released on October 1st via the official website as well as Youtube and Facebook . On October 2nd, SM Entertainment announced in a press release that the album release originally planned for October 5th would be postponed. The reason for this is that you need more time to think about the marketing strategy for worldwide publication. The album and music video have now been released in South Korea on October 19th. It was made available for download worldwide via iTunes .

The group is the first time with "The Boys" perform live in on October 21 KBS telecast Music Bank .

The US American Interscope Records first released The Boys as a maxi single digitally via iTunes worldwide on December 20, 2011 and then as an album in the USA on January 17, 2012.

Concept and style of music

The concept of "The Boys" is a fairytale theme ; all nine members embody characters from well-known fairy tales. The American producer Teddy Riley wrote the song "The Boys". He was also in South Korea during the recording to support the band. According to Tiffany , the group wants to represent Girlpower with the theme song . The song is characterized by some rap pieces and a missing hook line , which is unusual for the songs of Girls' Generation .

According to Sooyoung , the core of “The Boys” is the group's dance choreography.

The text for the ballad "How Great Is Your Love" comes from the Girls' Generation member Sooyoung .

Music video

The music video appeared in both Korean and English .
