Taeyeon ([ tæːjʌn ]; born March 9, 1989 in Jeonju ), full name Kim Tae-yeon , is a South Korean singer and band leader of the group Girls' Generation .

Life

Taeyeon ( 태연 ) was born on March 9, 1989 in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do Province . She has a younger sister and an older brother. In 2004 Taeyeon won the Grand Award for Best Singer at SM Entertainment 's 8th Annual Best Contest . She then moved to Seoul and was trained by SM Entertainment for five years and three months in the areas of "singing" and "dancing". Before joining the band Girls' Generation, she sang the song "You Bring Me Joy" with The One ( Kim Hyun-Chul ) in 2004 . On February 5, 2008, she graduated from Jeonju High School of Art and received an award for her life's work.

She speaks Korean , Standard Chinese and a little English .

Career

From April 7, 2008, Taeyeon hosted the MBC FM4U radio program Chinhan Chingu ( 친한 친구 ; also called Chin Chin ) together with Kang-in from Super Junior . After Kang-in left the show on April 19, 2009, she continued to host Chin Chin alone. In 2009 she received the Rookie of the Year Award as part of the MBC Drama Awards for moderating the radio show, which is popular in South Korea . In 2010 she was named Best Female Radio Presenter at the Republic of Korea Entertainment Arts Awards . On April 25, 2010, she hosted her last show, after which she also left Chin Chin .

In 2008 Taeyeon participated in the soundtracks for the TV series Hong Gil Dong ( 홍길동 ), entitled “Manyage” (“ 만약 에 ”), and Beethoven Virus ( 베토벤 바이러스 ), with the song “Deullinayo…” (“ 들리 나요 ... "). "Manyage" was very successful in various online charts and was named song of the month for February by Cyworld . “Deullinayo”, on the other hand, received the YEPP Popularity Award at the 2008 Golden Disk Awards . In the following year she and her bandmate Sunny contributed the song “Sarangingeoryo” (“ 사랑 인걸요 ”) to the soundtrack of the drama soap Heading to the Ground .

She also appeared on the MBC reality show We Got Married . On this show, she makes a couple with comedian Jeong Hyeong-don. It shows how their lives would be if both were married. The fact that he is eleven years older than Taeyeon caused a lot of explosives among South Korean netizens . The 13 episodes with Taeyeon aired on MBC January 25 through April 26, 2010.

In addition, Taeyeon belonged to the moderation team of Kim Seung-woo's KBS - talk show SeungSeungJangGu ( 승승장구 ; WinWin ) from February 2, 2010 to August 2010 .

On May 7, 2010 Taeyeon made her debut as a stage actress in the musical Midnight Sun ( 태양 의 노래 , Taeyangui Norae ). The story is about the 17-year-old girl Kaoru Amane , who suffers from the incurable skin disease Xeroderma pigmentosum and therefore cannot tolerate sunlight. That's why she only leaves the house at night to play music on her guitar. Taeyeon received good reviews for her performance as Kaoru Amane . She previously learned to play guitar for her role in the musical. In 2011 she was nominated in the Best Newcomer category of the 5th Musical Awards .

Furthermore, Taeyeon and her bandmate Seohyun were hired as voice actors for the Korean version of the animated film Despicable Me . Taeyeon lent her voice to the girl Margo .

On November 17, 2010 she released the ballad "Byeolcheoreom" ( 별 처럼 ) together with The One . The single reached number 1 on the South Korean Gaon Charts . On December 13, 2010, the song "Saranghaeyo" ("I Love You"; " 사랑 해요 ") from the official soundtrack of the South Korean TV action series Athena: Goddess of War ( 아테나: 전쟁 의 여신 ) will be released, while the music video was released on December 10th appeared. On January 31, 2011 the single "Dalla" (" 달라 ") was released, which Kim Bum-soo recorded together with Taeyeon for his album SOLISTA: Part 2 .

Girls' generation

Girls' Generation was founded by SM Entertainment in 2007 with Taeyeon as the band leader. The group made their official debut on August 5, 2007 on the music show Inkigayo . The first album Girls' Generation was the first by a girl group since 2002, which sold over 100,000 copies in South Korea. The group was able to build on this success with the following album and EPs.

In 2009 the group achieved a huge success with the title " Gee ". With the song, the group set a new record on KBS show Music Bank by finishing in first place for nine consecutive weeks.

Furthermore, Girls' Generation are popular advertising media and advertised, among other things, Nintendo , the Caribbean Bay water park , and the city of Seoul . In August 2010, the group began to expand their musical activities to Japan. But Taeyeon and the other members left various TV shows.

Private life and family

On her 31st birthday, when Taeyeon originally wanted to publish her single Birthday , her father died of a heart attack.
