Yuri (born December 5, 1989 in Goyang ), full name Kwon Yu-ri , is a South Korean singer and member of the K-pop band Girls' Generation .

Life

Yuri ( 유리 ) was born on December 5, 1989 in Goyang , Gyeonggi-do . She has an older brother named Hyeok-jun ( 혁준 ). In 2001 she received the Best Dancer Award at The 1st SM Young Star Contest and was thus signed by the talent agency SM Entertainment . On July 8, 2007, she was introduced as the third member of the Girls' Generation group.

In February 2008 she graduated from Nunggok High School ( 능곡 고등학교 ) and has been attending Chung-Ang University since the beginning of 2010 .

On March 5, 2010, Yuri was diagnosed with the H1N1 virus . As a result, Yuri was unable to perform with the band for a week. On March 11th, SM Entertainment announced that Yuri had recovered.

Yuri is fluent in both her native Korean and Standard Chinese . She is single and has blood type AB.

Career

In addition to her group activities with Girls' Generation, Yuri also has other activities in the entertainment industry. In 2007 she had a minor role as a ballerina in the teen comedy Kkonminam Yeonswae Tereo Sageon ( 꽃미남 연쇄 테러 사건 ). That same year, Yuri played a supporting role in the KBS - sitcom Unstoppable Wedding ( 못말리는 결혼 ).

On August 8, 2008, the Trot song "Must!" (" 꼭 ", " Kkok ") by Yuri and her bandmate Sooyoung was released, which serves as the opening song of the television series Working Mom ( 워킹 맘 ).

She also moderated MBC's Music Core from April 4, 2009 to July 31, 2010 together with her bandmate Tiffany . Due to the Japanese debut of Girls' Generation, both left the music show.

On October 11th, 2009 she and her bandmates Seohyun and Sooyoung had a photo shoot with QTV for the project "Dreaming Water". It was a campaign by UNICEF and Cosmopolitan to preserve the environment and clean water.

From the end of 2009 to June 2010, Yuri, like her bandmate Sunny , was part of the cast of the reality show Invincible Youth ( 청춘 불패 ; cheong-chun-bul-pae ) on KBS2 . In this TV format, seven stars from various South Korean girl groups farm in a small village. There are also games that add to the entertainment. In the first episodes, Yuri held a yoga class for the G7 members and viewers within the program . Due to the Japanese debut of Girls' Generation, Sunny, Yuri left the show together with Hyun A von 4minute .

In 2010 she appeared with her bandmates Seohyun and Yoona in the music video for "Caribbean Bay (Cabi)" (" 캐리비안 베이 (캐비) ") alongside 2PMs Taecyeon, Nichkhun and Chansung. The song is from Girls' Generation and 2PM and is part of the large-scale advertising campaign for Everlands Water Park Caribbean Bay .

The South Korean girls 'group Girls' Generation ( 소녀 시대 ; 少女 時代 ) was founded in 2007 by SM Entertainment . Their first single " Into the New World " was released on August 2, 2007, and their first official appearance was on the music show Inkigayo ( 인기 가요 ) on August 5, 2007. The first album Girls' Generation was the first by a girl group since 2002, which has sold over 100,000 times in South Korea. The group was able to build on this success with the following album and EPs.

In 2009 the group achieved a huge success with the title " Gee ". With the song, the group set a new record in the KBS telecast Music Bank on by reaching the top spot nine consecutive weeks. At the end of 2009, Girls' Generation began their Asian tour called Into the new world in Seoul. Since August 2010 the group has been increasingly active in Japan and achieved gold status with their two published singles.

Yuri wrote the lyrics for the R&B song "Mistake" (" 내 잘못 이죠 "), which is included on the mini-album Hoot . The song that marks her songwriting debut is about a girl who blames herself for being abandoned by her boyfriend. Tiffany also wrote a text for the ballad, but the producers decided on Yuri's version, which went better with the composition.
