Jessica (born April 18, 1989 in San Francisco , California ), full name Jessica Sooyeon Jung , is an American singer and was a member of the K-pop band Girls' Generation from 2007 to 2014 .

Life

Jessica ( 제시카 ) was born on April 18, 1989 in San Francisco and grew up there with her parents. Her Korean name is Jeong Su-yeon ( 정수연 ) often translated as Jung Soo-yeon or Jung Su-yeon . She has a younger sister named Krystal who is a member of the girl band f (x) .

When Jessica visited South Korea in 2000, she was cast in the SM Casting System and thus became a member of the agency. Her family then moved to Seoul to support Jessica. On July 13, 2007, she was introduced as a member of the nine-member band Girls' Generation . Shortly thereafter, on November 4, 2007, she successfully graduated from the Korea Kent Foreign School .

Jessica is fluent in both English and Korean .

Career

In 2009 Jessica released the single "Oppa Nappa" (" 오빠 나빠 ") together with her bandmates Seohyun and Tiffany under the name Roommate . Together they also published the promotional song "Mabinogi (It's Fantastic)" for the computer game of the same name.

The South Korean comedian Park Myeong-su ( 박명수 ) formed the duo MyeongCa Drive ( 명 카드 라이브 ) with Jessica for MBC's special show Muhan Dojeon - Ollimpikdaero Dyuetgayoje ( 무한 도전 올림픽 대로 듀엣 가요제 , Endless Challenge - Olympic Duet Music Festival ), in the they performed with the song "Naengmyeon" (" 냉면 "). The song became very popular in South Korea, which is why the duet received several offers to use the song as a promotional title for Naengmyeon commercials.

In the same year, Jessica and her bandmate Sunny made a guest appearance on the TV show Taehi Hegyu Jihyeoni ( 태희 혜교 지현 이 ). Together they taught the cast the dance steps for their Girls' Generation song " Sowoneul Malhaebwa " (" 소원 을 말해봐 "). Jessica also played a private English teacher and performed the song "Naengmyeon". The episode aired on August 26, 2009 on MBC.

At the end of 2009, Jessica made her debut as a stage actress in the South Korean musical production Geumbari Neomuhae ( 금발 이 너무해 , Legally Blonde ), an adaptation of the American film Naturally Blond . The screenings started on November 14, 2009 at the COEX Artium in Seoul and ended on March 14, 2010. Jessica played the role of the protagonist Elle Woods .

In March 2010, she and her bandmates Hyoyeon and Sooyoung made a cameo on the TV series Oh! My Lady ( 오! 마이 레이디 ) from SBS .

From May 10, 2010, Jessica was a regular guest on the KBS2 variety show Happy Birthday ( 해피 버스 데이 ). However, she left the program a month later due to the performances of Girls' Generation in Japan . The final episode with Jessica aired in South Korea on June 7th.

On October 13, 2010 she released her solo single "Sweet Delight". The single contains a total of six music tracks, including two instrumental versions .

On March 29, 2011 Jessica modeled for fashion pieces by Lee Ju-yeong at the 2011/2012 Fashion Week in Seoul.

Her single "Nunmuri Neomcheoseo" (" 눈물 이 넘쳐서 ") for the soundtrack of the TV series Romance Town was released on May 18, 2011.

Since January 4, 2012 she has played the role of "Kang Jong-hee" in the KBS2 drama Wild Romance ( 난폭 한 로맨스 ), for whose soundtrack she also recorded the song "What To Do" with Kim Jinpyo.

On September 30, 2014, her management announced that she was no longer a member of Girls' Generation.

Girls' generation

The South Korean girls group Girls' Generation was founded in 2007 by SM Entertainment . The group made their official debut on August 5, 2007 on the music show Inkigayo . The first album Girls' Generation was the first by a girl group since 2002, which sold over 100,000 copies in South Korea. The group was able to build on this success with the following album and EPs.

In 2009 the group achieved a huge success with the title " Gee ". With the song, the group set a new record on KBS show Music Bank by finishing in first place for nine consecutive weeks.

Furthermore, Girls' Generation are popular advertising media and advertise, among others, Nexon , Nintendo , the Caribbean Bay water park and the city of Seoul . In August 2010 the group began to expand their musical focus to Japan.
