Naengmyeon or Raengmyŏn is a Korean noodle dish .
There are two types of preparation: mul naengmyeon (물 냉면) and bibim naengmyeon (비빔 냉면), the latter containing gochujang , a hot chili paste.
Thin, chewy buckwheat noodles are served in an ice-cold beef broth seasoned with vinegar and mustard with slices of Korean pear , cucumber , beef and egg .
In the past, the dish was mainly eaten in winter, as it was believed that you could overcome heat with hot food and cold with cold food. Today it is preferred to be eaten on hot summer days.
Especially the North Korean capital Pyongyang is known for Naengmyeon.
In pop culture
For the South Korean show Muhan Dojeon , Park Myeong-su and Jessica from Girls' Generation recorded a song called Naengmyeon, which is named after the dish. The song became very popular in South Korea and used for cold noodle commercials.
