Nexon is a South Korean developer and publisher of computer games. Nexon is one of the pioneers of the free-to-play business model and the company's more than 50 games worldwide are based almost exclusively on this concept. The company's best-known product is the game MapleStory . Nexon has had its European office in Berlin since August 2015.

history

Nexon was founded in December 1994, and in 1995 work began on the first product, the multiplayer game The Kingdom of the Winds , which was published in South Korea in April 1996. August 1997, Nexon Inc., the forerunner of what is now Nexon America, was founded in Silicon Valley . In January 1998 the next multiplayer game, Legend of Darkness, followed in Korea . In July of the same year, The Kingdom of the Winds was published in the USA .

In 2003, MapleStory, the company's best-known product, was released in South Korea. It has reached a worldwide community of players to date, is constantly being developed and has been translated into numerous languages. Combat Arms, a free first-person shooter for the United States, followed in 2007. In 2008 it finally appeared in Europe.

On December 13, 2011, Nexon went public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange . It was the largest IPO in Japan in 2011.

On April 26, 2012, the information service Bloomberg LP announced that Nexon had submitted an offer to Electronic Arts to acquire it.
