Atlantica Online is a conditionally free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) from NDoors Interactive Inc., the US version being operated by the main company Ndoors Cooperation .

The MMORPG takes place in an alternative world story, the game world of which currently includes large parts of the northern hemisphere . Thematically, this is designed in the direction of fantasy with steampunk elements.

Atlantica Online differs from other MMORPGs in that the battles are turn-based. This is already known from Final Fantasy and Heroes of Might and Magic , but Atlantica Online is also suitable for groups.

Game mechanics

The turn-based combat in Atlantica Online is unusual for the game genre. Players and NPC opponents each represent a separate group. If you click on a group, your own and opposing group are transferred to a separate playing field for the fight, similar to many game console role-playing games . In each combat round the player has a time limit in which he can carry out his attacks in order to limit the time especially during PvP battles.

Due to its construction, the game is strongly based on a guild concept in order to be able to keep control of an indefinite city within the game world. Strong guilds can found nations and also wage war against other nations.

In addition to fighting skills, the player can also learn a certain number of crafting skills.

mercenary

The game world is populated by player-created characters and NPCs . The player can choose one of nine playable classes and the appearance of his character can be selected. In addition to the main character, each player can recruit mercenaries to replenish their group. Up to eight mercenaries, which the player can choose from 26 different classes, can actively take part in a fight alongside the main character. The player can adapt the line-up to the respective situation at any time.

Melee fighters usually have values for high hit points and defense and a mediocre action power. Ranged fighters have fewer hit points, but more agency. Magical mercenaries use magic to attack their enemies, relying on their abilities that are stronger than their normal attack.

Housing

In Atlantica Online there is an extensive housing system, i.e. the possibility for players to buy and set up their own virtual house and to use some game features there that are only open to house owners. In addition to the possibility of customizing the house with a variety of furnishings, decor and wallpaper / floor coverings, it is also possible to entertain mercenaries as employees in his house, who then z. B. Cooking or making equipment. Expeditions are carried out by mercenaries stationed in the house. These wander into a dungeon without any action on the part of the player and fight there for a certain time. Then they bring the prey back. Also, so-called feasts can only be held in houses, which players eat and thus receive a buff. Finally, houses also offer the possibility of creating a mine, lumberjack camp or a garden. There you can get unique raw materials. As soon as a house has reached a certain "value" you can exchange it for a property that is larger and offers more space for mercenaries as well as expeditions and raw material stores.

jobs

Each player can learn as many professions as they want and with them armor, weapons, accessories, magic potions and scrolls and much more. manufacture yourself. The economy in the game is very player-driven, meaning that almost anything can be made by players. A special feature of the professions system is that an improved version of the object can come out when it is created by profession.

Content updates

At Atlantica Online there are new content updates, so-called patches, every approximately one month . While smaller patches are carried out on the Korean servers at shorter intervals, these are less frequent on the US and European servers, but they are also larger. In terms of content, the updates include new dungeons, quests, NPCs, mercenaries, skills, equipment, special outfits, mounts and community events. At the same time, the patches also contain adjustments to the game mechanics in PvP and PvE, such as: B. improving the PvP balance or the amount of experience points received.

On April 2, 2014, Nexon announced a game version in English. The continent of South America will be accessible on April 9, 2014.

Tactical Battle System

At the end of 2010 the so-called "Tactical Battle System" was introduced. This represents a new kind of challenge and is an independent combat system. In contrast to the previous system, you fight in an extensive landscape in which mercenaries can move freely to and fro. Also every mercenary and opponent can act in every turn, there is no limit by the action points of the old combat system. The clever positioning of your own mercenaries is particularly important. "TBS" is divided into skirmish (all mercenaries are available, can be entered without limit) and missions (number of mercenaries limited, TBS points required to join). What all TBS variants have in common is that the opponents are comparatively stronger than their normal counterparts, but at the same time the loot and experience gained is greater.

criticism

Due to the innovative, turn-based combat system and the integration of community events, Atlantica Online receives consistently positive reviews from various web portals and computer game magazines.
