Hoot ( 훗 ) is the third EP by the South Korean girl group Girls' Generation and was released on October 27, 2010 by SM Entertainment .

On October 19, 2010, SM Entertainment released a short audio teaser of the song "Hoot" and three promotional photos of Jessica , Tiffany and Seohyun on the Girls' Generation official website , and announced that the Hoot EP would be released on October 27. The music video teaser was released on October 24, 2010 on SM Entertainment's YouTube channel. The pop song "Hoot" was released for download on October 25th before the EP was finally released on October 27th, 2010. The First Press Limited Edition of the EP contains one of 18 different photo cards and stickers.
The mini-album has been pre-ordered more than 150,000 times. On October 28th, the music video for "Hoot" was finally released.
Like the second album Oh! Hoot was also released internationally through the iTunes Store .
On December 22nd, 2010, Hoot was released in four different editions by Nayutawave Records in Japan.

Concept and style of music
The retro concept of the mini-album is an agent theme, inspired by the James Bond films of the 1960s and the Austin Powers series. "Hoot" ( 훗 ) is an onomatopoeic , Korean expression for "laugh".
Super Junior's Choi Si-won made a guest appearance as a secret agent in the music video. The video was shot in mid-October in Namyangju City , Gyeonggi-do . The choreography for the song comes from the Pussycat Dolls member Rino Nakasone.
The theme song "Hoot" is about a woman who warns her boyfriend not to look after other women. Yuri wrote the lyrics for the R&B song "Mistake" (" 내 잘못 이죠 "). The song that marks her songwriting debut is about a girl who blames herself for being abandoned by her boyfriend. Tiffany also wrote a text for the ballad, but the producers decided on Yuri's version, which was better suited to the composition. The third song "My Best Friend" contains elements of contemporary R&B and was written by the South Korean singer Wheesung . The title is about the friendship between the members of Girls' Generation. "Wake Up" is a synth pop song and "Snowy Wish" is a love song for winter that can be assigned to the dance pop genre .

The Japanese Deluxe First Press Limited Edition , First Press Limited Edition, and Limited Edition from Hoot include six more bonus titles. All bonus tracks are also included on the Run Devil Run album. The Regular Edition , also appearing in Japan, does not contain any other bonus titles.

promotion
The group had their first appearance with the song "Hoot" on October 29, 2010 in the music program Music Bank on the KBS broadcaster . On 30 and 31 October, she sang "Hoot" in the program Music Core on MBC and The Music Trend of SBS , along with the titles "Mistake" and "My Best Friend" KBS Global described the choreography as "memorable" and "Noticeable". Girls' Generation also performed in these music shows in the following weeks. They also appeared at the Korea Film Awards on November 18, 2010.
Reception and chart successes
Immediately after the title song "Hoot" was released, it reached number 1 on the major South Korean music portals Melon, Dosirak, Soribada , Monkey3 and Bugs. In addition, both the song and the EP immediately reached number one on the South Korean album charts . The EP could hold this rank for two weeks. The group also achieved first place with their song in their appearances on the music programs Music Bank and The Music Trend . The EP Hoot reached second place on the South Korean annual sales charts in 2010 with 163,066 units sold.
In Japan, Hoot sold more than 61,000 copies in the first week, reaching second place on the Japanese Oricon album chart. In January 2011, Hoot was awarded gold by the RIAJ .
