Oh! is the second studio album by Girls' Generation . It was released on January 28, 2010 by SM Entertainment in South Korea . On March 22nd, the album was re-released with three more songs entitled Run Devil Run .

After the girls' generation dominated the K-Pop scene in 2009 and were omnipresent on South Korean television, the new song “ Oh! “Digitally available for download and quickly became a huge hit in South Korea . The music video was released on January 27th. The full album was finally released on January 28th. In addition, a "dance version" of the music video was also released.

The album was released on iTunes in more than 80 countries, including Germany , France , Great Britain , Japan and the USA .

Music style and concept

The concept for the album Oh! shows the nine singers in cheerleading clothes and is intended to show the "sweet" side of the girls' generation. This cheerleading concept was in keeping with the 2010 Winter Olympics and the World Cup .

kenzie, who previously composed the debut single “ Into the New World ” by Girls' Generation, also wrote the electro pop song “Oh!”. Cheo Soo-hyun directed the accompanying music video. The girls have chosen the numbers themselves.

The song “Sweet Talking Baby” (“ 뻔 & Fun”) uses the “Minuet from the String Quintet in E major” by Luigi Boccherini as background music .

Run Devil Run

On March 22, 2010 the album was re-released under the title Run Devil Run with three other pieces of music. With this, the group takes a more adult path away from the “sweet image”. The song " Run Devil Run " was released digitally on March 17th.

"Run Devil Run" was written by Busbee, Alex James and Kalle Engström. The American singer Kesha recorded a demo version of the song, but it was never officially released. SM Entertainment bought the rights to the song and Hong Ji-yu wrote Korean lyrics for Girls' Generation. The music video was released on March 18, 2010. The choreography is by Lisette Bustamante and Beat Burger (Sim Jae-won).

The track was first performed live on January 30, 2010 on MBC's Music Core program . However, there was a picture loss for a few seconds towards the end of the performance during the live broadcast. Then the station was showered with complaints. The incident was also parodied on YouTube with user CodeMonmon “mixing” clips from the drama series Iris and the appearance of Girls' Generation. On their comeback at Music Bank , the group won the “K-Chart” against CN Blue and 2PM and broke the record for the highest result with 23,077 points.

On March 6, 2010 , Girls' Generation appeared on the music program Music Core in honor of figure skating gold medalist Kim Yuna with “Oh!” On “Lotte World's Ice Skating Rink”. A week later, on March 13th, the band finished their promotion for "Oh!" On Music Cores Goodbye Stage .

The band had their first appearance with the song "Run Devil Run" on March 18 at the Music Bank show . As part of the promotions for Run Devil Run was on 26 March 2010 in cooperation with the music portal Bugs a smartphone - App published, including in the German iTunes store appeared.

Chart successes and awards

Immediately after the song “Oh!” Was released, it reached first place on some South Korean online portals. The song went straight to number 2 on the KBS World Charts. In the second week, the song took first place on the South Korean Gaon Charts .

With this album, Girls' Generation in Japan achieved a respectable success by Oh! entered the Japanese Oricon charts at number 54 in the second week of February without the band promoting the album there.

The album Oh! ranks second in the 2010 South Korean annual charts and Run Devil Run reached fourth place. In 2010, 197,934 units of the Oh! sold and 136,851 copies of Run Devil Run .
