The Dong-a Ilbo ( East Asian daily newspaper ) is a daily newspaper in South Korea . It was founded as Tōa Nippō by Kim Songsu in 1920 when Korea was a colony of Japan . At the beginning, Dong-a Ilbo was a nationalist newspaper, but today, true to its company motto, it is committed to critical and honest reporting. It is one of the three major newspapers in South Korea and has a daily circulation of more than two million copies. Dong-a Ilbo has partnerships with six foreign newspapers, including The New York Times in the US, Asahi Shimbun in Japan and The Times in the UK.
