The German-American Institute Tübingen (dai) has existed since 1952 and aims to promote cultural exchange between the two countries of Germany and America on several levels. The dai is a binational educational and cultural institution that provides information in Tübingen and the surrounding area about cultural and social, political and economic developments in the USA and Germany. The sponsor is the German-American Society Tübingen eV

history

The institute was opened in 1952 as the "Amerika-Haus Tübingen". After the Second World War, it was intended to promote the spread of Western culture and to anchor free democracy in the consciousness of the population. At that time there were 44 such institutions nationwide, today there are ten, four of them in Baden-Württemberg . The information and educational offer was gladly accepted. After the time of National Socialism, the institutes were places of the free spirit. Current topics were discussed in them and Hollywood films were shown. In addition, the German writers and American classics banned in the previous years could be (re) read. The dai Tübingen is funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Foreign Office, the city of Tübingen, the American embassy and its more than 1,300 members. It is testimony to the establishment of German-American friendship.
