Jung "Rain" Yoon-jong (born August 14, 1992 ) is a former South Korean e-athlete in the computer game StarCraft 2 and previously Starcraft: Brood War . Over the course of his career he has won approximately $ 240,000 in tournament prize money. This makes him one of the most successful KeSPA players who made the switch from Starcraft: Broodwar to Starcraft II.
Career
According to himself, Jung Yoon-jong didn't really want to become a pro gamer in his youth. In 2010 he joined the SK Telecom T1 team - then nicknamed By.Sun - and had his first professional games during the 2010/11 Shinhan Bank Proleague . However, there were still no major successes in individual tournaments during the Brood War era.
Rain's debut in Starcraft II was in May 2012 in a Proleague game in which he defeated Jaedong (one of the first KeSPA players to join StarCraft 2 and long-time Broodwar rival). In his first GSL season, in which he was placed as a KeSPA player together with Jaedong, Jung Yoon-jong reached the semi-finals, while he was able to play directly into the final when he played for the first time in OSL and this also against Park “DongRaeGu” Soo -ho won.
Shortly before winning the OSL, Rain surprisingly won the Asia Finals of the Battle.net World Championship Series. In the final, he defeated the eventual world champion Parting . The next big tournament in which Jung Yoon-jong participated was the MLG Dallas in the USA. There he was able to reach the shared fifth place on his US debut, although he had to take the long route through the open qualification.
At the grand finale of the Battle.net World Championship Series 2012 in Shanghai, Rain finished third. In 2013 further good results followed in the WCS and a victory in the GSL Hot6ix Cup. At the end of 2014, Rain left his long-time team SK Telecom T1 and has since played for the Swiss team mYinsanity .
In June 2015 he was able to win another big individual tournament with the GSL Season 2 one and a half years after the success at the Hot6ix Cup. On December 21, 2015, Rain announced his retirement as a professional player.
