Harry Bosch (Detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch) is a literary figure of the American writer Michael Connelly . Bosch made his first appearance in 1992 in the novel Schwarzes Echo (English: The Black Echo ). Since then he has been the main character in a number of crime novels as well as some of Connelly's short stories . In addition, Bosch appears as a minor character in other novels by Connelly, such as those about the lawyer Michael "Mickey" Haller.
Bosch is a war veteran and homicide detective for the Los Angeles Police Department in Hollywood . In later novels he is retired and works as a private detective . It is named after the painter Hieronymus Bosch .
The US crime series Bosch, produced by Amazon Studios and Fabrik Entertainment since 2014, is based on Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch novels.
Fictional biography
Harry Bosch's mother was a prostitute who was murdered in October 1961 when Bosch was eleven years old. His father, whom he only met later, was defense attorney Mickey Haller. His half-brother is Michael Haller, to whom Connelly dedicated a novel series in which Harry Bosch also appears. Bosch spent his youth in various orphanages , youth homes and foster families . At the age of 17 he joined the United States Army and served a. a. as a tunnel rat in Vietnam during the Vietnam War . Bosch was married to Eleanor Wish and has a daughter named Madelaine ("Maddie") with her. She lived in Hong Kong with her mother most of the time. After his ex-wife was murdered, Maddie lived with her father in Los Angeles.
