Michael Dibdin
Michael Dibdin (born March 21, 1947 in Wolverhampton , † March 30, 2007 in Seattle , USA ) was an English-language crime novelist and writer . His works have been translated into numerous languages.
Life
Dibdin went to school in Northern Ireland and Scotland , studied in England and Canada and taught English literature at the University of Perugia for five years. He lived in Seattle, USA until his death.
Works
Dibdin became known for his crime novels about Aurelio Zen , a police superintendent who was born in Venice and lives in Rome. All eleven thrillers with the series hero are set in different Italian cities ( Perugia , Rome , Venice , Naples , Bologna ) or Italian regions ( Sardinia , Sicily , Piedmont , Tuscany , South Tyrol , Calabria ). They include the prevailing social, political and criminal ( Camorra , Mafia ) environment.
Three thrillers have been filmed in a first season of the TV series Zen based on the script by Simon Burke : Vendetta , Cabal and Ratking . Rufus Sewell in the leading role embodies Aurelio Zen. The films were first broadcast in 2011 by the BBC. The Second German Television ( ZDF ), which was a co-producer alongside the Italian Mediaset , broadcast the miniseries from 8-10. January 2013 with the titles "Vendetta", "Ascension" and "Abduction in Italian".
Dibdin has also written psychological thrillers and novels that are set in England and the USA. For Ascension in 1994 he received the prestigious Grand prix de littérature policière .
