Wildendürnbach is a municipality with 1568 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the northern Weinviertel on the Czech border. It is located about 10 km east of Laa an der Thaya and 25 km north of the district capital Mistelbach (Lower Austria) .

Wildendürnbach is located in the Weinviertel in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 53.65 km², 11.92% of the area is forested.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1267 as Durrenpach.

In the last days of the Second World War , Wildendürnbach and its cadastral communities were the scene of violent and varied battles between troops of the Wehrmacht and the Red Army . Wildendürnbach itself was the target of air raids on April 20, 1945 , with 50 homesteads being hit by bombs, several of which were completely destroyed. Between April 22nd and May 8th there was infantry fighting, with the German troops evacuating the place on April 21st; and the Soviet Army entered on the morning of April 22nd. Two civilians were killed in an air raid in Neuruppersdorf . In Pottenhofen, the fighting lasted for over a week, and several civilians were also killed.

Population development

After a sharp decline in population from 1939 to 1991, it has remained almost constant since the turn of the millennium.

• UFC Wildendürnbach: The UFC Wildendürnbach was founded in 1970. He appears with the colors blue / white. In 1996, planning began for a new sports field with an automatic irrigation system. The groundbreaking took place in spring 1998, the opening in August 2000 with a test match against SK Rapid Wien . In the 2011/2012 season, the club rose from 1st class Northwest to 2nd class Pulkautal. The most successful player in the club's history is Christian Bruckner, who scored 430 goals in 450 championship appearances. The chairman is Johannes Kölbl, who was awarded the Silver Medal of Honor of the Lower Austrian Football Association in 2017 for his services to football .
• USC Neuruppersdorf: USC Neuruppersdorf is the younger club and was founded in 1984, it played its home games in the Waldstadion, which is located in the forest on the Burgstallberg in the northeastern part of the village. The club colors are red / white. The game was played in 3rd class in the Mistelbach region. The greatest success was the championship title in 2011. In the 2018/19 season, the active game operation was stopped, but the club continued to exist and has been playing in the Weinviertel district class again since the 2019/20 season.
• UTC Wildendürnbach: The tennis club "UTC Wildendürnbach" plays its games next to the Wildendürnbach pond. The facility has two spaces and was renovated in April 2011. The UTC Wildendürnbach takes part in the borderland championships every year.
