Schrattenberg is a municipality with 821 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Mistelbach district in Lower Austria .
geography
Schrattenberg is located in the Weinviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the municipality covers 19.14 square kilometers. 9.98 percent of the area is forested. There is a border crossing directly on the state border with the Czech Republic , although it is only accessible for cars.
Community structure
There is only the Schrattenberg cadastral community .
Neighboring communities
The neighboring municipality borders Valtice in the Czech Republic in the north . To the east lies Bernhardsthal , southeast Großkrut and southwest Herrnbaumgarten where not far away in the West Poysdorf and Drasenhofen followed.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1184. Finds from the Bronze Age show, however, that the history of the place began much earlier.
In the last days of World War II there were air raids of the Soviets , in which three civilians were killed. The Red Army took the place without a fight on April 22, 1945.

The population is falling because both the birth balance and the migration balance are negative.

economy
In 2010 there were 68 agricultural and forestry holdings, 42 of which were full-time farms, which cultivated almost 90 percent of the area. In 1999 there were 155 farms, 44 of them full-time. In the manufacturing sector there were nine establishments employing 26 people, mostly manufacturing goods. The service sector employed 73 people in 26 companies, a third of them in trade (as of 2011).
- Viticulture: Schrattenberg is the most important red wine-growing area on the Brünnerstrasse . The most important varieties are Zweigelt , Blauburger and Blauer Portugieser . A Hauergemeinschaft has been offering a red wine with the brand name Schratt that has been produced under special quality conditions since 1989 .
- Tourism: Marked foot and cycle paths lead through Schrattenberg's vineyards, forests and cellar lanes.
