history
The first documentary mention of Hausbrunn, at that time still as "Hugesprunne", can be found in the "Necrologia Germaniae" of the Klosterneuburg monastery and dates from 1195. Almost 150 years later, the document no. 486 from the Passau monastery from 1341 certifies its existence of the place under the name "Hawsprun". On June 4, 1367, Ortolf von Wolchenstorf sold goods to Poystorff, Alten Liechtenwart, “Hausprunne” and Ringleinstorff to David Streuzz, the “Jews of Vienna”, son of Hennlein von Klosterneuburg. He also sold those at Hausbrunn that were probably free property .
Early documentary mentions
Eleven years later, on December 20, 1378, Johann I von Liechtenstein von Nikolsburg, Hofmeister Duke Albrechts III. Ulrich von Zistersdorf gave a Liechtenstein fiefdom to Hausbrunn for 30 pounds Viennese pfennigs. On May 24, 1380, Wernhart von Maissau , Supreme Marshal, gave the Prawe (Praun-Bruno) to the Weidner von Hohenau for the sake of his services, nine entire fiefs at Hohenaw and a fishing water there and a pound of money, located on overland fields at Hawsprun. The contract was sealed by Wernhart von Maißau, his brother Chunrat and brother-in-law Ulrich von Seltau.
In 1384 Johann I von Liechtenstein bought their quarters at the Feste and Markt zu Mistelbach and the estates at Rotenlaim, Wukkendorf, Hausbrunn, Liechtenwart, Hadersdorf, Rankenleiten and Hirschenau for 700 pounds Viennese pfennigs from the brothers Johann and Albert, the Volkesstorffern . Apart from the sellers, Siegler was her uncle Stefan von Zelking , his brother Heinrich von Zelking, Rudolf von Waltse and Hans von Maißau, her brother-in-law. One year later, Heinrich der Chlammer bought properties at Hausbrunn, among others, and gave them to the brothers Konrad, Hans and Erasmus den Friedvergen (Friedbergen) as a fief on June 2, 1385. On January 17, 1394, Johann I von Liechtenstein von Nikolsburg, Hofmeister Duke Albrechts III., From Johann von Maissau , the highest Schenk in Austria, exchanged various goods and goods, located in Hohenau, Hausbrunn, Rotenlaim and Chundorf (desert) Gülten and goods in Chundorf, Ranoldsbach parish (Ravelsbach). On October 13, 1404, Friedrich der Frauenschühel issued a letter of purchase for fiefdoms in Dobermannsdorf, Hausbrunn, Ringelsdorf and Neulichtenwarth (Ortisei) for his cousin Niklas von Zistersdorf. On June 2, 1423 Wilhelm the Toppell gave the noble Michael Pentz at his request 7 pounds of Viennese pfennigs money to fiefdom at Hausbrunn on the estate.
17th to 19th century
In the course of the Swedish Wars, Hausbrunn was devastated in 1645. According to the death record of 1645/46 of the parish Altlichtenwarth / Hausbrunn, 309 people were killed. The plague was brought into Hausbrunn by the Viennese infirmary Georg Kalser in 1713 . The epidemic lasted 14 weeks and killed 98 people. Hausbrunn was a market by 1716 at the latest, at least the municipality was listed as a market on a map of the Lower Austrian provincial government that year.
Two years later the church was built on the site of an old, dilapidated chapel and consecrated on June 15, 1718. However, the tower of the new church only stood for six years: it fell over due to a violent storm in 1724 and had to be rebuilt. Two more years later the three altars were consecrated: the high altar to St. Vitus , the Gospel altar to the Virgin Mary and the epistle altar to the cross . Hausbrunn was elevated to a parish on July 20, 1783 by court decree .
Gottfried von Preyer was born on March 15, 1807 in Hausbrunn . Leopold Kupelwieser , professor of painting at the Imperial and Royal Academy of Fine Arts, painted the altarpiece of St. Vitus in the parish church of Hausbrunn in 1841.
On March 4, 1849, the market town of Hausbrunn was recognized as independent according to the Imperial Constitution. In 1874 a post office with driving mail was set up on Bahnstrasse. The newly built elementary school building was added eleven years later. In 1896 the volunteer fire brigade was founded.
Modern times
Gottfried von Preyer died on May 9, 1901 in Vienna as a single and wealthy man. In the course of his life he had received many titles and honors - kaiserl. Council, Imperial and Royal Vizehofkapellmeister iP, Commander of the Papal New Year's Eve , Knight of the Franz Joseph Order and the Papal Order of St. Gregory as well as a member of many Tonkunstler and humanitarian associations. On January 21, 1894, Gottfried von Preyer was raised to the nobility. In his estate he had stipulated that a children's hospital should be built from his assets ( Gottfried von Preyer'sches Children's Hospital in Vienna).
Towards the end of the First World War, the bells from the church tower had to be delivered in 1917 - the big bell from 1827, the Elfuhr bell from 1800 and on July 9th the death bell cast in 1815.
On September 22, 1927, a telephone station was opened in Hausbrunn and the electrification of the place began the following year. In 1930 the fresco painter Engelbert Daringer from Upper Austria painted the ceiling of the parish church. The side altars of the church were designed in 1935 by the academic sculptor Josef Furthner . During the Second World War, the church's last bronze bell from 1656 was picked up on February 27, 1943.
Second World War
In the final phase of the Second World War , Hausbrunn was largely spared from fighting. On April 17, 1945, advance guards of the Red Army from the direction of Hohenau and Dobermannsdorf penetrated the town. The German resistance was low, so that there were no significant losses on the part of the Russians. Two days before the occupation, the place was under light artillery and grenade launchers, which, however, only caused slight damage to the building. On April 18, there was a German counterattack from the direction of Altlichtenwarth , but it was unsuccessful. However, 11 civilians were killed and 16 buildings destroyed.
