Unterstinkenbrunn is a municipality with 558 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Mistelbach district in Lower Austria .

geography

Unterstinkenbrunn is located in the Weinviertel in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 9.43 km², 1.07% of the area is forested.

From the stink well in the village, from which the municipality gets its name, water flows that has been enriched with bivalent iron (Fe 2+ ) in the clayey-sandy soil of the Laa formation and, when it escapes, with the oxygen in the air to trivalent iron (Fe 3+ ) oxidized. As a result, the water has an inky taste and the exit point is covered over a large area with a red layer of rust.

Community structure

There is only the cadastral community of Unterstinkenbrunn. The only other district is loam pit.

The community belongs to the small region of Land um Laa .

With the Lower Austria. Municipal structure improvement was merged on January 1st, 1972 Gaubitsch and Unterstinkenbrunn to the municipality of Gartenbrunn . The merger was reversed on January 1st, 1995.

history

Unterstinkenbrunn was first mentioned in 1147 in a deed of donation from the Diocese of Passau. In 1545 Staatz had to do basic service at Altenburg Castle in “Nider-Stinchenbrunn”. 1679–1713 the plague raged in Unterstinkenbrunn. Unterstinchenbrunn Castle and Lordship was owned by the County of Sinzendorf until 1822, whose coat of arms was placed over the entrance to the castle. In 1727, the lordship allowed ten families to build small houses, granted construction aids and three years off.

In 1804 the elementary school was founded and built.

In 1822, Unterstinchenbrunn Castle and Lordship passed into the possession of the von Reuss-Köstritz family until 1933. In the years 1832, 1855 and 1866 cholera epidemics dominated the fate of the people. Large fires wreaked havoc in 1814, 1863 and 1866. The parish church of St. Peter and Paul was built between 1861 and 1863. In 1888 the Unterstinkenbrunn volunteer fire brigade was founded.

Through Friedrich Six, Canon of St. Stephan in Vienna, the community came into the possession of a children's home. The construction of this home began in 1904 and ended in 1905. The nursery school was run by the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph until 1994 and is now being looked after by the state of Lower Austria with qualified nursery school teachers.

On October 10, 2010, the municipality of Unterstinkenbrunn was awarded the municipal coat of arms by Governor Erwin Pröll. This consists of a green background (to symbolize agriculture), blue-yellow (gold) waves (symbolizes a sulfur spring) and two crossed keys (patronage of Peter and Paul ).

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 598 inhabitants. In 1991 the community had 593 inhabitants, in 1981 637 and in 1971 689 inhabitants.

  • The Loamgrui (clay pit) , located around 400 m south of the village, is an ensemble of wine cellars, which - unlike in a cellar alley - are arranged in a village-like manner, partly in a depression. The Loamgrui now serves as the venue for various events.

According to the 1999 survey, there were 48 agricultural and forestry holdings. In 2001 Unterstinkenbrunn had 23 non-agricultural workplaces. According to the 2001 census, the number of persons in employment at the place of residence was 259. The employment rate in 2001 was 44.48%.
