Land around Laa
Land um Laa is a small region in the north of the Weinviertel in Lower Austria on the border with the Czech Republic . It extends over the territory of the municipalities of Falkenstein , Fallbach , Gaubitsch , Gnadendorf , Großharras , Laa an der Thaya , Neudorf , Staatz , Stronsdorf , Unterstinkenbrunn and Wildendürnbach .
The region describes itself as "KEM Land um Laa" (climate and energy model region Land um Laa).
history
The country around Laa has been constituted as a small region since 1995 and has established itself in two regional associations:
- REV (Regional Development Association), which is responsible for the climate and energy model region.
- Tourism and innovation association that is primarily dedicated to the topic of tourism and the marketing of agricultural products.
10 communities have been working together in the regional development association since 1996, and the Falkenstein community joined in 2003. Thanks to intensive cooperation between the municipalities, the " Therme Laa " was realized in 2002 and Lower Austria's first 4-star superior hotel in 2005 with the " Thermenhotel Laa ", which means that the number of overnight stays in Laa an der Thaya increased from 7451 (2002) increased tenfold to 70,918 (2015) and the regional added value increased eightfold in this period. An appropriate environment program was created around these two leading companies. In the state around Laa, for example, all cycle paths have been updated and new regional cycle routes created. Since 2007, the region has endeavored to upgrade the regional flagship products as part of the “Laaer Onion Gourmet Region”.
Since 2002 there has been a partnership with the neighboring small Czech region of Hrušovansko.
In the years 2012 to 2015, essential contents and goals in the energy sector were defined for the small region Land um Laa and at the end of June 2015 the first implementation phase of the KEM Land um Laa was completed. The specific goal is the region's complete energy self- sufficiency . A new submission for the model region is planned for autumn 2016.
