Region around Wolkersdorf

The region around Wolkersdorf is a small region made up of nine communities around the city of Wolkersdorf in the Weinviertel . The region is almost congruent with the former judicial district Wolkersdorf. Around 18,500 people live in the region. The aim of the association of the same name is to promote regional identity, the economy and agriculture, tourism and culture.

The region can be reached publicly with the Laaer Ostbahn , until 2019 also with the Stammersdorfer Lokalbahn . The region can be reached by car via Brünner Strasse or the Nord Autobahn and the Vienna outer ring expressway .

history

On November 11, 2005, the communities of Großebersdorf, Hochleithen, Kreuttal, Kreuzstetten, Ulrichskirchen-Schleinbach and Wolkersdorf joined together to form the "Region around Wolkersdorf". Bockfließ and Pillichsdorf joined on February 15, 2007. Grossengersdorf was the last municipality to join the region on July 11, 2007.

The vice-mayor and later mayor of Wolkersdorf Anna Steindl has been the chairwoman of the region since it was founded.
