Wienerwald initiative region

The Wienerwald Initiativ Region ( WIR for short ) is a regional amalgamation of several Wienerwald communities in Lower Austria located between Vienna and St. Pölten . It is a small region . Six of the member communities are also in the LEADER region Elsbeere Wienerwald (formerly “5 + WIR”).

The aim of WIR is, among other things, to present the uniqueness of the region and the marketing of strengths through a joint appearance in the areas of tourism , sport , culture and cuisine. The chairman is the mayor of Neulengbach, Franz Wohlmuth .

The WIR was founded in 1998 by seven congregations. Eichgraben joined later as the eighth. On April 28, 2002, the 90-kilometer WIR circular hiking trail was opened. In 2005 the cycle path between Laaben and Neulengbach was completed. On October 27, 2002, the Buchberg summit was opened to the public by the three WIR communities Neulengbach, Maria Anzbach and Asperhofen. On September 26, 2004, the reopening of the newly built Buchbergwarte followed .
