The Noweda pharmacist eG (proper spelling NOWEDA) is a German pharmaceutical wholesaler in the legal form of a cooperative with headquarters in Essen . Noweda is owned by over 9,200 pharmacists . The number of employees is around 2,700. Over 9200 pharmacies are supplied several times a day from 20 branches across Germany . Sales in the 2017/18 financial year amounted to EUR 7.1 billion (2016/2017: EUR 6.3 billion).

history

On September 1, 1939, Noweda (an acronym for " No rd we st d eutsche A pothekergenossenschaft") was founded in Essen by seven pharmacists. Sales in the first business year were 1,400 Reichsmarks .

The business premises were destroyed in 1944. In 1945 business operations were resumed and in 1946 they moved into new business premises. From 1947 to 1969 the company grew continuously and established itself as a pharmaceutical wholesaler. A new building was erected in Essen-Altendorf.

On November 4, 1970, the inauguration of a new logistics and administration complex in Essen with an area of ​​13,000 m². In the following years ten branches were set up in Germany.

From 1990, the delivery of pharmacies in the new federal states also took place. In 2008, W. Kapferer KG in Mosbach , which Wilhelm Kapferer had expanded into a pharmaceutical wholesaler, was taken over with a total of four branches in Germany, giving the company a nationwide presence.

In the 20 branches, a total of more than 160,000 pharmaceuticals, aids and other pharmacy-standard goods are available for retrieval. A distribution warehouse and the head office are located at the Essen location.

On July 17, 2008, the retrospective takeover of the pharmaceutical wholesaler W. Kapferer KG in Mosbach on April 1, 2008 was announced to the public in a press release. Kapferer KG has four branches, primarily in southern Germany, in Mosbach (Baden), Friedrichsthal (Saar) , Rossau (Saxony) and Garching near Munich . On August 5, 2008, the takeover was approved by the Federal Cartel Office.

As a result of the takeover, the Noweda Group is represented nationwide and one of the largest German retail companies with total sales of over 3 billion euros. On September 9, 2009, the groundbreaking ceremony took place for the new branch in Bergkirchen , which has replaced the branch in Garching, which had become too small, since September 1, 2010. On September 1, 2011 a new branch was opened in Peine and on June 1, 2013 a new branch in Hamburg .

On November 23, 2011, Noweda announced the purchase of ~ 67% of the shares in the Luxembourg pharmaceutical wholesaler Comptoir Pharmaceutique Luxembourgeois SA (CPL). In September 2013 Noweda announced a stake in the Swiss pharmaceutical wholesaler PharmaFocus. Since then, the cooperative has held 50 percent of the shares in the public limited company, which exclusively supplies independent pharmacies in Switzerland.

At the beginning of November 2016, NOWEDA Apothekergenossenschaft eG announced the takeover of Ebert + Jacobi GmbH & Co. KG from Würzburg on January 1, 2017. With the takeover, the market share of the NOWEDA pharmacists' cooperative increases to over 21 percent.

IT

Noweda is the largest medium-sized user of the mainframe operating system IBM VSE in North Rhine-Westphalia and uses fail-safe IBM mainframes to ensure delivery capability. Software developed in COBOL and VSE - Assembler form the backbone of telephone order taking. Financial accounting is supported by software from Wilken from Ulm. The inventory management is a proprietary in-house development under Oracle .
