The cellar lane system is located south of the village in a rectangular artificial hollow and in some of the hollow paths leading into the hollow, some of which are designated as a natural monument. There are 122 buildings on an area of around 200 by 250 meters; about a third of the cellars are in the form of a shield wall, a third are eaves and a third are gable-end press houses. The oldest dating is from 1924. Around 1990 Schmidbaur found almost half of the cellars in need of renovation or in a dilapidated condition. The basement village, idyllically laid out around a central square, is meanwhile advertised as being unique of its kind; there are events such as an annual Advent market.
