Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Unterstinkenbrunn

The Roman Catholic parish church of Unterstinkenbrunn is located in the municipality of Unterstinkenbrunn in the Mistelbach district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to Saints Peter and Paul and belongs to the dean's office Laa-Gaubitsch in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is a listed building .

Location description

The church, visible from afar, stands on a moderate hill on the main road in the east of the village. It forms a group of buildings with the rectory and the elementary school.

history

Up until 1861 there was an old chapel, built in 1720, which was inaugurated in 1736 by the Bishop of Passau. This was dismantled in 1861 and the neo-Gothic church was built in its place until 1863. Unterstinkenbrunn was a branch of the Gaubitsch parish  and became an independent parish in 1893.

The church consists of a neo-Gothic nave with a retracted choir and facade tower . The facade is structured by stepped buttresses and has two-lane tracery windows and an arched window on the tower facade side. The narrow west facade ends at the top in a gable that is hidden in front of the octagonal tower with a pointed helmet.

There is a cross-ribbed vault over the three-bay nave and the single-bay polygonal choir . The vault is stored on services . In the west is a three-aisled gallery on pillars. The square porch of the church is vaulted with ribs. The retracted triumphal arch is ogival. There is decorative painting in the nave and choir. A fresco on the triumphal arch shows the "calling of the apostles". The figural stained glass dates from 1944.

Furnishing

On the high altar is a neo-Gothic altarpiece depicting Saints Peter and Paul. It hangs in a carved frame. The flanking figures represent St. Anna and St. Joseph . The right side altar is a neo-Gothic altar. On it are figures of Saints Florian , Maria and Barbara in niches on eyelashes and pinnacles .

The rest of the furnishings come from the construction period. In the vestibule there is a late baroque crucifix and figures of Saints Rochus and Sebastian .

organ

The organ dates from 1863 by Franz Svitil . The case is simple and neo-Gothic.
