Maissauer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Maissauer were an Austrian ministerial family.

The lords of Maissau have been traceable in Lower Austria since the 12th century and in the late Middle Ages they were among the most powerful, richest and most respected noble families in the country, whose possessions stretched from the Wachau to Pöggstall and Zwettl and into today's Weinviertel. Several times they held high offices such as that of Hereditary Marshal, inheritance gifting and gift giving.

In 1122 a Rudolf and Rozinus von Maissau (Missov or Mihsouw) are named as the first representatives of the sex. With the death of Otto IV von Maissau , the male line died out.
