The Galgenberg , called Golingbir in the local dialect , is a 255  m above sea level. A. high elevation in the Weinviertel , near the village of Wildendürnbach in the Lower Austrian district of Mistelbach .

There used to be a place of execution on the rise. There are 184 press houses and cellars on site, known as Kellergasse , which were voted Kellergasse of the Year in 2013.

description

The Galgenberg is located 1.5 km north-northeast of the center of Wildendürnbach, near the border with Moravia . Until 1828 a gallows stood on the top of the elevation; it is not known whether executions took place. 184 press houses with wine cellars were built in the 19th century. They form a cellar lane that runs around the hill on its slopes and was named the first cellar lane of the year in 2013 . In 1971 the old parish church of Wildendürnbach was blown up; the top of the church tower survived the explosion almost undamaged and was placed on the top of the elevation.

The Kellergasse was nominated in 2017 in the preselection for Lower Austria in the TV show 9 Places - 9 Treasures .

"Walk in d'Grean"

The term means something like “going into the green” and describes a special custom in the northern Weinviertel that has also been lived on Galgenberg Wildendürnbach since pre-industrial times. Every year on Easter Monday , cellar owners invite relatives, wine lovers and employees to taste the new vintage. In the meantime, the once small custom has developed into a regional festival, which enjoys great popularity every year and was added to the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage in 2019 .
