Caleb Carr

Caleb Carr (born August 2, 1955 in New York City , New York ) is an American writer and historian, best known for his crime novels set at the end of the 19th century.

Life

Carr, who grew up in a shabby area of Manhattan , had a chaotic family background in childhood and youth . His father, Lucien Carr, was considered one of the founders of the Beat Generation , along with Allen Ginsberg , William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac . The parents divorced early.

Carr successfully completed a history degree from New York University . He then worked as a journalist and is co-editor of a military history magazine. He can also be seen as an actor in the 1999 film One Night in New York .

1994 he succeeded his late 19th century in New York settled detective novel The Alienist (German: The encirclement ) international breakthrough. With the 1997 published sequel The Angel of Darkness (German: Angel of Darkness ) succeeded Carr, to maintain the high content and language level. His other works, including the Sherlock Holmes adventure The Italian Secretary (German: The Blood of Shame ), the science fiction novel Killing Time (German: The Deception ) and various non-fiction books were less well received by the public.
