Tonino Benacquista (born September 1, 1961 in Choisy-le-Roi , France ) is a French writer and screenwriter .

Tonino Benacquista is the son of Italian emigrants. He first began studying film, which he then dropped out to earn a living doing odd jobs. Since 1985 he has mainly written detective novels. For his novel Itakerblues he received the renowned Grand prix de littérature policière and the Prix ​​Mystère de la critique in 1992 .

Since 1994 he has also worked as a screenwriter. In 2001 Benacquista wrote the screenplay for his film Lip Service together with director Jacques Audiard . Here Vincent Cassel plays the newly released thief Paul who enters into a liaison with a hearing-impaired secretary (played by Emmanuelle Devos ) and cheats on a group of criminals. For the thriller, Benacquista, together with Audiard, was awarded the César , the most important French film prize, and was nominated for the European Film Prize. In 2005 and 2006, the writer worked again with Audiard on the latter's thrillers The Wilde Beat of My Heart and Les Disparus .

As a comic author, he published the album L'Outremangeur together with the illustrator Jacques Ferrandez in 1998 , for which he received the Prix René Goscinny at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême the following year . Together with Daniel Pennac , he wrote scenarios for two Lucky Luke albums from 2010 , which were drawn by Achdé .
