action

Vincent's life is suddenly destroyed when he returns home from work to find his wife murdered. A taxi from New York City had met him on the country road with a noticeable scratch. He couldn't see the driver, but he could see his red jacket and bulky ring.

A few years later: Vincent now lives in New York City himself, where he suspects his wife's murderer. He also regularly tries his luck at dog races . In nightmares he is constantly plagued by his memories from the night of the murder. Inspired by the desire to find the perpetrator and to bring him to account, he is so withdrawn that he repeatedly rejects the love of his neighbor Alice. Knowing that she will never be able to reach Vincent as long as he is chasing after a phantom, Alice devises a perfidious plan: She beguiles the twenty-year-old taxi driver Roger, whom she wants to shape into Vincent's victim.

To make Roger compliant, Alice doesn't shy away from sleeping with him. The typical loser Roger can hardly believe his luck. For him, Alice is a godsend. He falls in love with her and becomes her willing victim. Alice drives a scratch in Roger's taxi under a pretext and a little later buys him a red jacket and a ring with a chunky stone. Finally she asks him to place a dog bet for her - knowing that Vincent is also in the betting office at that time .

Her plan works: Vincent believes he has his wife's murderer in front of him. On the spur of the moment, he lets him drive you to Chinatown , where he sets a trap for him. Roger is beaten up and finally sunk in the trunk of his taxi in New York Harbor . In fact, after his supposed revenge, Vincent opens up to his neighbor's feelings and enters into a relationship with her.

However, Roger survived the attempted murder and makes contact with Alice again. Even when Alice confessed to having deliberately staged the incident, Roger fell for her. What's more, he blackmailed her with her testimony and forced her to go away with him in order to build a new life with her somewhere. On the way she discovers a large ring in the glove compartment, although Roger is still wearing the ring she gave him. Roger forces her to have sex. Alice sees only one way out of her predicament. When Roger was still sleeping the next morning, she killed him with an iron bar.

The film ends with Alice and Vincent walking through New York together. Vincent becomes aware of a newspaper article through a large-format photo of Roger's face that reports on a murder case . It remains to be seen whether he can see through the background. Together the couple continues on their way.

Reviews

"Fake psychological thriller in an artificial design that repeatedly builds unexpected twists into the elegantly illustrated staging."

" 'A Crime' is a dark film noir by Manuel Pradal with a lot of amour fou and atmospheric views from the shabby corners of New York."

“[…] Director Manuel Pradal, who already presented an unpredictable and confusing love drama in his love drama 'Little Angels, Little Sharks' , shot this strange but always exciting psychological thriller in the tradition of similar directorial work by his famous compatriots Henri-Georges Clouzot and René Clément .
