Daniel Pennac
Daniel Pennac , actually Daniel Pennacchioni (born December 1, 1944 in Casablanca , Morocco ) is a French writer.
Life
Pennac spent his childhood in Africa and Asia. After studying literature in Nice , Pennac worked and lived as a teacher in the Paris district of Belleville, where he is still based today. In 1973 he published his first work Le service militaire au service de qui? , a book critical of the military. In order not to harm the military career of his father, who worked for the French army, he shortened his real name Pennachioni and wrote under the pseudonym Pennac.
In 1985 Au Bonheur des ogres ( Paradise of the Monsters ) was published, the first detective novel about the professional, notorious "scapegoat" and leisure detective Benjamin Malaussène. Due to the success, the sequels La fée carabine (1987, When old ladies shoot ) and La petite marchande en prose (1989, German scapegoat in the book jungle ) followed shortly thereafter , as well as Monsieur Malaussène (1995, German Monsieur Malaussène ), some distance behind . Des Chrétiens et des Maures (1996, German temporarily immortal ), Aux fruits de la passion (1998, German nobility destroyed ) and finally in 2003 Le dictateur et le hamac ( The dictator and the hammock ).
Pennac achieved another success with its children's books, especially with the book series about the little adventurer Kamo. Pennac also dealt with the art of novel writing: In 1992 he published another of his works, Comme un roman ( Like a novel ), in which he takes the side of the reader and claims his rights on ten points. These rights range from the right not to read, to the right to repeat reading, to the right to read in private.
His comic Débauche ( Eng . "Downward"), which he wrote together with Jacques Tardi , deals with the topic of unemployment. With the Prix Renaudot , Pennac received one of the most important French literary prizes in 2007 .
Occasionally Pennac also works as a screenwriter , such as the cartoon Ernest & Célestine , published in 2012 .
In the presidential elections of 2002 he was in the shadow cabinet of the humorist Dieudonné .
Pennac was the patron and sponsor of the Prix Monte-Cristo , which was awarded for the first time in 2019 and is awarded by a jury made up of prison inmates. Pennac had previously held workshops for aspiring writers in a prison in Toulouse .
style
In the late 1980s, Pennac established itself on the French contemporary bestseller lists and won several literary prizes. Pennac was described by Sabine Janssen as a new storyteller and an author with a future. Pennac's literary talent is said to have an interesting spelling as well as numerous literary relationships to renowned authors.
Pennac's works usually progress at a rapid narrative pace, are designed to be quite complex and usually appear quite confused on first reading: Several storylines, in which different people and characters are involved, play out in parallel and convey countless topics to the reader. Although such a multitude of topics are virtually ubiquitous, the reader can still untangle them, as the highly schematic genre that generally appears in Pennac's works has an extremely unifying effect, thus holding the narrative together and propelling it forward. Furthermore, Pennac knows how to reflect language and literature in his novels in a variety of ways: On a concrete linguistic level, he creates intertextual references between the criminal literary concept, for example, and the resulting representations of the characters.
