Leonhard Koppelmann (* 1970 in Aachen ) is a German radio play and theater director .

Life

After graduating from high school, Leonhard Koppelmann was assistant director at WDR and NDR from 1989 to 1995 . From 1991 to 1995 he studied theater directing at the University of Hamburg , a. a. with Jürgen Flimm and then worked as an assistant director at Thalia-Theater Hamburg , a. a. with Jürgen Flimm, Jürgen Gosch and Sven-Eric Bechtolf . In 1997 he received the Gertrud Eysoldt Prize for the best young director for the production of Lessing's Die Juden at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. Further productions followed, including a. “Attacks on Anne” by Martin Crimp and “Andy Warhol - Cleaning in American”. Most recently he staged “The Queen's Men” and “Schwejk” together with Peter Jordan at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and “Märchen im Grand-Hotel” at the Mainz State Theater. In 2018, together with Daniel Hope (violinist) , he realized a new text version (Peter Jordan) of Igor Stravinsky's “ Story of the Soldier ” for the Philharmonie Essen.

After assisting radio play directors Heinz von Cramer , Walter Adler and Norbert Schaeffer , he also began writing as a radio author in 1993: features, radio plays for children and young people and crime novels. He is best known as a radio play director.
