Joël Dicker (born June 16, 1985 in Geneva ) is a francophone Swiss writer . He became known in 2013 with the novel La Vérité sur l'Affaire Harry Quebert ( The Truth About the Harry Quebert Case ), for which he received several literary awards.

Life

Joël Dicker is the son of a bookseller and a French teacher, he is of both French and Russian descent. In his youth he played drums and at the age of ten founded La Gazette des animaux, a magazine that he ran for seven years. For his commitment to environmental policy, he was awarded the Prix ​​Cunéo pour la protection de la nature animal welfare prize and was praised as the “youngest Swiss editor-in-chief” by the daily newspaper Tribune de Genève . He attended the Collège Madame de Staël in Geneva. At the age of 18 he moved to Paris , where he studied acting for a year at the Cours Florent . On his return he began studying law at the University of Geneva , which he successfully completed in 2010.

The novella Le Tigre made Dicker's literary debut in 2005. In 2012 he received the "Special Mention" at the Prix ​​littéraire de l'armée de Terre - Erwan Bergot for his first novel Les derniers jours de nos pères (The last days of our fathers) , published in 2010 . In 2012 he published his second novel, La Vérité sur l'Affaire Harry Quebert ( The Truth About the Harry Quebert Case ). The story is about an American writer who visits his old professor because of writer's block and solves a murder. In addition to being nominated for other literary prizes, this work has been awarded the Prix ​​Goncourt des lycéens , the Grand Prix du Roman and the Prix ​​littéraire de la Vocation , among others . In 2015, Dicker was nominated for the SwissAward . In 2016 his novel Le Livre des Baltimore ( The History of the Baltimores ) was published; La Disparition de Stephanie Mailer ( The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer ) followed in 2018 .
