Radio play of the month

The radio play of the month is a radio play award that has been awarded monthly by the German Academy of Performing Arts in Bensheim since 1977 for one radio play . The selection is made by an annually changing, three-person jury. She makes her choice from the original broadcasts of all ARD channels nominated by the broadcasters for the month and, since 2019, from the programs of Swiss radio and television (SRF) and Austrian broadcasting (ORF) . Since 1987, one radio play of the year has been chosen from the twelve radio plays of the month from one year . The aim of the undoped honorary award is to help the art genre to receive journalistic feedback and a critical response.

Since 2005, the radio play of the year has been presented in public screenings in Bensheim and Frankfurt am Main . The radio play of the year, together with the war blind radio play award, is one of the most prestigious awards in the field of audio art.
