Wilfried F. Schoeller (born July 3, 1941 in Illertissen ; † January 6, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German author , literary critic and honorary professor for 20th century literature, literary criticism and media at the University of Bremen .

Life

Schoeller studied German, history, art history and philosophy in Munich. In 1968 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Heinrich Mann .

From 1965 to 1970 he worked as a publishing editor . An activity as a freelance author followed. From 1972 Schoeller was literary editor at Hessischer Rundfunk and from 1993 to 2002 head of the department “Current Culture and Music”. For ten years he moderated the program he had founded on Hessian television , books, books.

For the documentation Meeting Point 72: The Kippe - Suspended for Probation , Schoeller received honorable recognition at the Adolf Grimme Prize in 1973 . In 2000 he was appointed to an honorary professorship at the University of Bremen. From 2002 to 2009 Schoeller was General Secretary of the PEN Center Germany . Schoeller wrote books a. a. about Theodor W. Adorno and Michail Bulgakow and was the editor of the complete works of Oskar Maria Graf . Schoeller wrote numerous scripts for literary films and radio plays .

In 1990 he received the Alfred Kerr Prize for literary criticism. Since 1995 he has been a moderator and consultant at the Erlanger Poetenfest as well as long-term chairman of the Römerberg Talks in Frankfurt am Main.

Wilfried F. Schoeller lived in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main until his death. He was the father of the photographer Martin Schoeller and the director Bettina Schoeller . He died in Berlin in early 2020 after a long illness at the age of 78.
