Benno Meyer-Wehlack

Benno Meyer-Wehlack (born January 17, 1928 in Stettin ; †  February 16, 2014 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) was a German writer , radio play and screenwriter .

biography

Benno Meyer-Wehlack grew up in Kiel , on Hiddensee and in Berlin . After 1945 he studied drama at the Hebbel Theater in Berlin and Schlattenschammes with Victor de Kowa at the stands in Berlin. Meyer-Wehlack was promoted by and led friendship with Marcus Behmer since 1949. During this time, feature section short stories appeared in Berlin newspapers, including the Neue Zeitung . From 1959 to 1961 he was a television dramaturge at the SWF and from 1965 to 1967 at the SFB . The first works by German auteur filmmakers after 1945, by director Peter Lilienthal and cameraman Michael Ballhaus , were authored by Meyer-Wehlack. Between 1966 and 1967 he worked as a dramaturgy lecturer at the Berlin Film and Television Academy . Since the late 1960s he lived as a freelance writer in Berlin. He was married to the German- Croatian writer Irena Vrkljan . She translated numerous texts from (Serbo) Croatian into German.
